French House
This house represents the charm
of the French who came to the
area. Our Fourth of July mural on
the White Pine Museum wall
downtown shows an early French
Hand Laundry run by a local
During the 20’s through the 50’s,
French Basques arrived to herd
sheep on our vast open ranges.
Many continued to make their
home here, owning restaurants,
big sheep ranches, and working in
the mines.
Local sisters, Dee Christiansen and
Jody Horton, were the decorators
using items found in the Village as
well as items donated for the
house. The home depicts one of a
seamstress, working on the early
clothing needs of the area.
This house features French
delicacies and prints of the Basque
Mural, as well as the Fourth of
July Mural, and books of the
Village history.
