Greek Heritage Mural
Window panels trace the rich heritage of the Greeks and their influence on our community.
The six panels of the Greek mural tell the story of the Greek influence in Ely. Greeks came to
this area as the Copper period began in the early 1900's. Young Greek men usually came to
work here first and their families followed to settle mostly in the town of McGill.

The first panel shows images of classical Greek culture. The second panel shows life in early
modern Greece. The third panel is the emigration of workers to the United States with the
Statue of Liberty greeting them in New York. The fourth panel shows the trip across the United
States with the Greek people arriving at the train depot in East Ely. The fifth panel represents
the work and life of the immigrants here. The sixth panel showcases the professions many of
the later generations of Greeks pursued.
